Project Group: The Second Round of Ammunition

As of now we feel that our group’s focus is going to be on how social media is effecting how people see the conflict in Jerusalem. The best way we put it is that social media is the second round of ammunition. This becomes a project that really has many possibilities of where to go. We know that from a twitter point of view, the Israeli Defense Forces shows what they want to the public in a bold way. From the Palestinian side, there are very few of police, government, and military official twitter accounts, and of those that exist they are blocked and inaccessible from the United States. Something interesting that we found though was everyday people like you and me posting tweets and images through they’re twitter accounts. The media has limits and as we know they will not share everything and what they do share will be portrayed in a very careful or bold manner. It is the everyday people that have an impact and have the rights to show the grueling result of conflict in Jerusalem. Tracking official government based twitter accounts and normal people’s twitter accounts will provide an interesting view to the conflict in Jerusalem and how twitter has an effect on what is going on, 140 characters at a time.

  1. Hey guys,
I talked to Professor Horowitz about switching into this group because I'd like to research U.S. representations of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through American media (probably print media would be the easiest in finding sources). I'm not sure what all your group has discussed for the final project (besides what you have written on this post), so would this be at all something that you could see tying into your final project? Let me know any thoughts you have, and we can definitely discuss this more in class!
